PRESS RELEASE
Paris, April 9 2025 – Christophe GIOVANNETTI, President of the Union Nations Federation (UNF), expresses his deep pride and appreciation for the dedication of his ambassadors working across Africa, particularly in Burundi, for their unwavering commitment to sustainable and inclusive development on the continent.
On Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 10 a.m., a UNF delegation led by His Excellency Ambassador Siriam TIEYE, Africa Director and Head of Mission, was officially received in audience by His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation of the Republic of Burundi.
At the center of the discussions was the request for a Host Country Agreement to open the UNF East Africa Regional Office in Bujumbura. This strategic establishment aims to strengthen the organization’s presence and impact in East Africa through a more localized and responsive approach. During the meeting, H.E. Ambassador Siriam TIEYE presented the seven flagship programs of the UNF, all aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—specifically, seven of the seventeen SDGs, addressing critical areas such as education, health, access to clean water, women’s empowerment, poverty reduction, peacebuilding, and climate action.
Recognizing the significant humanitarian and social impact of these initiatives, H.E. Minister Albert SHINGIRO expressed strong interest in the UNF’s mission. He pledged his support for the swift approval of the Host Country Agreement and committed to actively supporting the implementation of the UNF’s programs in Burundi. This promising collaboration marks a crucial step toward a solid partnership between the UNF and Burundian authorities in the service of common good. President Christophe GIOVANNETTI reaffirms his commitment to supporting local and continental dynamics that contribute to a fairer, more united, and sustainable future for Africa.
